What is being done to increase WEP wireless standards and WEP wireless security?

Some WEP standards introduced for secure WLANs.

  • Cisco introduced LEAP (Lightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol) 802.11 Aironet device. This LEAP device generates a unique new WEP key with the log-on process, instead of the static WEP wireless key. Multi-clients have unique keys on the WEP wireless system. This enhances WEP wireless security and reduces the WEP encryption algorithm initialization.
  • The IEEE is designing a similar interoperable authentication and key management system to increase WEP wireless security. Corporate wireless networks need to include WEP wireless and authentication systems. WEP wireless definitely makes it more difficult for hackers to succeed.
  • Both the IEEE and WECA (Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance) work continues to restore confidence in WEP and clarify some misconceptions in WEP wireless security.
  1. WEP has been and continues to be an effective hacker deterrent for wireless LAN privacy.
  2. The goal of WEP is to provide an equivalent level of privacy as a wired LAN. WEP was incorporated by using WEP encryption to secure transmitted data.
  3. Additional enhancements to WEP are adopted to counter any sophisticated attacks.
  4. An enhanced version of WEP wireless, called WEP 2 has been introduced. Some of the WEP 2 improvements on the original WEP are:
  • the implementation of the128 bit WEP encryption keys
  • better WEP encryption algorithms.
  1. The home environment provides less likelihood of WEP wireless violation.

How to ensure the security of your WEP Wireless devices?

  • Any 802.11 installation requiring data privacy should use WEP.
  • WEP was never intended to be a complete end-to-end security solution.
  • WEP Protects the wireless link between the client machines and access points.

At Wireless Computer Networking.com we are committed to keeping the research of WEP wireless as instituted by the IEEE International standard and WECA for wireless LANs completely up to date. WEP technology is updated constantly. Network managers can be assured that our WEP wireless team is abreast of the latest measures. We are able to provide you with solutions for secure WEP wireless technology and better WEP encryption for absolute WEP privacy.
